What we were left with was a place where there could be no good, no evil..with everyone trapped in the realms God had created. In this gray area, hundreds of stories emerged. With God gone, other demons and nefarious entities sought to control what was uncontrollable."
A young boy discovers his imaginary playmate, Anna, is not imaginary and soon learns of her predicament. She is trapped between this life and the next. She enlists his help, along with a poltergeist named Sylvia and a mysterious immortal hermit with dark ties to the town of New Harmony, Indiana.
AUTHOR NOTE: "Written between the years of 1988 and 1998, TPOE is the story of my youth. In the novel, a boy grows up and discovers horrible secrets about his birth, his parents and the house in which he lives. He's pursued by demonic forces and manipulated by malevalent spirits. Amidst this hideous stuff, he also discovers that he's gay. I thought the interplay between real-word horrors like peer abuse and unloveable parent and supernatural drama...which is worse... growing up gay in a small town or being a pawn in an undead game? The style put off some readers. It was the internal dialogue of a rather douchebaggy teen that blamed everyone for his problems (Twilight anyone?). In fact, each character is trapped in an endless cycle until they decide to take action for themselves. Only when they stop blaming others, do they truly transcend. "
